One of the most rewarding aspects of being a commercial realtor is watching your clients enjoy success with their businesses, and watching the business transition from inception to finding its identity. In 2018, two of our clients have received notable recognition: The Coupe and The Hop Shoppe, both in Stapleton.
The Coupe, located at 379 Van Duzer St., was named by New York Magazine as Staten Island’s first “serious cocktail lounge.” The Coupe is noted for serving craft cocktails made with hand-carved ice and a curated menu of quality bar food, served in a relaxing, romantic atmosphere that extends into the wee hours of the morning.
A short walk away is The Hop Shoppe at 372 Van Duzer St., a fun, eclectic atmosphere for good food and more than 200 beers – including 20 draft selections with superheros standing guard on the tap handles. Thrillist named The Hop Shoppe one of the best beer bars in New York City, citing its “campy décor, skee-ball, and arcade cabinets; boozy milkshakes, (and) a flamboyant menu of bar food that would make Guy Fieri proud.”
Both of these trending spots are in Stapleton, part of the Downtown Staten Island neighborhood that is seeing an exciting revitalization with assistance from the New York City Economic Development Corp, local organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Alliance, and real estate investors/ entrepreneurs.
The owners of The Hop Shoppe and The Coupe took a significant risk when opening. The area wasn't entirely proven, and some people thought they were crazy for investing their time and money into the area. 
However, to no surprise from our end, both have proven to be dynamic locations with remarkable success. Both owners deserve tremendous credit - along with many other entrepreneurs in the neighborhood - and I look forward to working with them on future projects.
