When we sold the shopping center known as South Shore Commons to the Berman family back in March for Forty-One Million dollars, we noted big changes were on the way.  While we had satisfied both the buyer and seller, securing a sale price that was in lockstep with the market, we knew that if the new ownership team worked within the parameters of the exclusive Casandra Properties marketing and repositioning plan, there would be significant upside to be captured.

On Black Friday, I was thrilled to join with ownership in presenting the first of many new marketing initiatives designed to capture, retain, and promote retail sales.  You can read the full story here.

South Shore Commons announced a few short weeks ago we were giving away a twenty-five hundred dollar shopping spree to a lucky Staten Island shopper to celebrate the Thanksgiving Holiday.  Several thousand shoppers entered the contest and on Thanksgiving eve, a winner was selected.

Amy Ruotolo, a mother of two and resident of Pleasant Plains Staten Island was the winner of this exciting retail shopping spree.  Amy noted “I never win anything, so this was a great surprise and the $2500 will definitely go a long way. I have been shopping at the center as long as I can remember, I’m always in Carter’s shopping for my kids”.

As a retail and commercial broker on Staten Island, I am always working with my team and clients to develop new ways to raise the bar.  While promotions like this have been seen in much larger regional centers, we have never seen it done in the smaller centers.  This was a great way to promote the center while giving back to a community that’s given so much to us and the South Shore Commons Shopping Center.

This was one of many ways we are working to drive sales for our retail clients and landlords.  A way to connect directly with the community and drum up some excitement as the holiday season approaches.

Promptly upon closing the deal I successfully negotiated lease extensions with Modell’s Sporting Goods, Justice, Dressbarn, and Famous Footwear all of which were included in the Shopping Spree Giveaway.    However, we didn’t stop there. Also included were gift certificates to retailers like GameStop, Mattress Firm, Panera Bread, Mr. Ciao, GNC, Carters, Dunkin Donuts, and the list goes on.

When Dave Berman purchased the center, he pledged to work hand in hand with Casandra Properties to change the way the center was perceived and improve the overall shopper's experience.

At the event Friday Morning, we were excited to announce with the Berman family the next event.  This is sort of like a secret Santa give away.  The promotion will begin on Giving Tuesday, November 27.  To enter you can register at www.southshorecommons.ny.com

Upon registering each participant can pick a charity and send a summary of why it’s their favorite in an effort to secure a Twenty-Five Hundred Dollar donation to their respective charity in the participant's name!

Stay tuned for many more exciting initiatives from the team at Casandra Properties along with my season of giving program that we plan to roll out in the coming weeks!!
